X years later, Havok is the centerpiece of Sinister’s Six

Marvel’s X-Men line has entered the Age Of Revelation and launched 16 new miniseries in the process. Set ten years into the future of the Marvel Universe, Revelation (the Heir of Apocalypse fka Cypher/Doug Ramsey of the New Mutants) has conquered a large portion of the Earth in part due to the effect of the X-Virus that has eliminated or mutated much of the population.

Naturally, a mutant resistance is forming and this includes Sinister’s Six:

  1. Black Cat, the hunter
  2. Omega Red, the tank
  3. Domino, the sniper
  4. Lady Fantomex, the gunslinger
  5. Venom, the wildcard
  6. Havok, the commander

The X-Virus has not made any immediately obvious changes to Havok as it has to other members of the team, though there is plenty of time for new twists and surprises to be revealed.

Havok is presented as a capable leader and his loyalties to Sinister appear to be rooted in caring for his son in this timeline. Raising children in alternate timelines has not worked out well for Havok in the past (see Scotty Summers from the Mutant X universe and Katie Summers from an undone timeline in Uncanny Avengers as examples) so expect something heartbreaking here.

The series marks David Marquez‘s debut as a writer for Marvel. Marquez has a number of impressive art credits with the publisher including the most recent Uncanny X-Men #1 in 2024. Marquez also provides the art for the main cover for Sinister’s Six #1 shown above.

I enjoy the title’s play on the classic Spider-Man villains “the Sinister Six” and the inclusion of Black Cat and Venom is a nice touch. Everything in issue #1 fits nicely with what we’ve seen so far in the Age of Revelation and this should be a fun series.

At last… the Pop! called Havok!

After more than a decade of producing thousands of Marvel figures representing hundreds of characters, Funko has finally delivered a Pop! Havok. 

Available as a NYCC exclusive (also available from Funko.com), the Havok Pop! was limited to 3000 pieces and sold out within minutes online.

The X-Factor era costume was an interesting choice though I would have preferred the first figure to be in the classic black costume. Maybe they needed the black paint for more Venoms?

In all seriousness, this was great to finally see. I’m not crazy about where this places Havok on the Funko depth chart, but I’m hopeful the quick sellout might lead to more Havok in the near future.

Havok confronts Cyclops in this week’s X-Men: Legacy #259

In the first of two X-Men: Regenesis story arcs that will feature the character, Havok confronts his brother Cyclops regarding his split with Wolverine in the pages of X-Men: Schism in today’s X-Men: Legacy #259. Attempting to get the two to find some common ground, Havok sees a lot more panel time in this issue and that will hopefully continue in Half a Step part two.

A scene in the issue recalls all of the recent traumatic events the X-Men have gone through leading up to Schism, and it’s difficult not to focus on the fact that Havok has been off-planet for all of them. House of M, Messiah Complex, Messiah War, Utopia, Necrosha, Second Coming, and Schism all passed during his absence although he did have a front row seat for the cosmic War of Kings. It’s reminiscent of the character’s return following the Mutant X series that saw Havok trapped in a parallel dimension as the world has changed dramatically around him once again.

Havok will also appear in January’s X-Factor #230 as that title reaches the X-Men: Regenesis launch point and he and Polaris join the team.

Havok returns to Earth in this week’s X-Men: Legacy #258

Havok once again did not have a big part to play in the final chapter of Mike Carey’s Five Miles South of the Universe featured in X-Men: Legacy #258. It’s a bit surprising given the the team was fighting for survival on a space station in danger of falling into a sun, and in two of Havok’s last major appearances (X-Men: Emperor Vulcan and X-Men: Kingbreaker) he absorbed a great deal of energy from nearby stars. Admittedly that would not have helped them to escape the certain death that awaited them.

It’s unclear whether Havok will appear next in S-Men: Legacy #259 which begins the X-Men: Regenesis branding for that title or in Peter David’s X-Factor in January. David says he has plans for “Polavok” (his preferred portmanteau for Havok and long-time love interest Polaris) as he talks about the title in yesterday’s X-Posiiton interview on ComicBookResources.com.
